Well it's been a looooong winter....and spring is a bit early thank God! We have a slight risk of severe today with a 5% tornado risk pretty close to our area. 5% may not sound like much but it is for us here in the Great Lakes and especially this early in the season. Our tornado season doesn't really get cranking until about mid-May. It takes that long for the snow to melt, the lake to defrost and the atmosphere to heat up enough to get good storms around here. Chase 5 is headed out to north-central Ohio to chase and I'll likely be sticking pretty close to the NE Ohio region. My job tends to temper my chase decisions. I chase for WJET TV in Erie PA and I hate it when I venture out to some distant cross roads somewhere only to find out that an area near the tv station got wacked by a big cell. My job is to cover events in our viewing area, so I tend to venture out of that area only when I'm sure that nothing is going to happen at home. I don't know how many times I've been out in the middle of Kansas chasing...and not catching..that I've gotten a text message telling me of tornado touchdowns a mile or so from home. GRRRRRR great way to ruin a chase trip! |

Welcome to our new home here. Our webmaster has worked long and hard to get this new format to work. The storm season is about to kick off and frankly, I'm sick and tired of snow...so lets have at it! Parts of our team are headed out to the plains in May. Its been a couple years since I was able to get out there so I'm really looking forward to it. We will be posting pics, video and stories each day while out west so tune in regularly to see whats up. |
